Slowing Down

One of the best things we can do for our practice in daily life is simply slowing down. It’s a rather cliché suggestion, but it really works. When you find yourself stressed, angry, anxious, or in some unpleasant state, take a moment to just slow down. Watch what is happening. Make each movement and decision mindfully. When we slow down like this our heart rate slows, our blood pressure goes down, and we can think and act with much more clarity.

It may help you to bring a general awareness to the speed at which you’re moving. Throughout the day, we speed up and forget to slow it down. Notice how fast you are moving, how mindful you’re able to be, and what it feels like to do something at a slower pace.
