Meditation and Brain Entrainment
Many people find it very hard to meditate, they find that their minds drift and come up with many thoughts that they would rather not have. It is not always easy to chase the thoughts away or even ignore them. It’s a bit like having a song stick in your head and refuse to go. There are many reasons for this but generally there is a part of our mind that likes to feel in control, although the irony is that this part is just being pulled hither and thither with no purpose or game plan. Budhhist monks spend years in retreats and meditation and I believe that even they have a struggle to overcome to achieve that blessed state of pure oneness.
The mind repeatedly comes up with thoughts, worries, flashes of anxiety, memories and so forth. It is not used to being completely still and present to the current moment and our education has convinced us that we must constatntly be seeking something. Setting goals, achieving some, missing others and keeping the cycle of pain and pleasure, gain and loss in perpetual movement.
Meditation is a great way to stop this mind tyranny and calm the mind, letting it observe the universe outside of itself. Let’s face it, the mind’s main concern is me me me and that cause a cycle of happy, sad, optimistic, pessimistic, a never ending noise and bikkering inside our heads.
A few years ago I came across binaural beats and the idea of brain entrainment (please click the links for further explanation). By then I had been practicing Yoga (the non competitive variety
) for 15 years and had been practicing mediation for over 5 years. I often found that it took me a long time to enter the “desired” state or rather a state of “statelessness” and as I was busy with work, life and the rest I found it dificult to find the time. With Binaural Beats I find that I am able to enter the stste a lot faster using theta waves primarily and listening with headphones. Within a few minutes and combined with breathing awareness I was getting there a lot faster. I am aware of scientific research in this area and some interesting conclusions, however ultimately, it works for me. I use different type of sounds and you can get them with affirnations or without and various wave lenghths. I have uploaded a 15 minute recording Theta wave beats which should be listened to with headphones and combined with breathing awareness.
