Meditation is nothing new, it’s been around for as long as the human race has been here. In fact a meditative state is a natural state that we all experience from time time, by design or by accident. Those times when you find yourself staring out of the window at nothing in particular and thoughts just come and go with no specific intention or purpose. As we grow older these states become less frequent as more and more occupies our mind. Daily worries, health , finance and so forth occupy our minds.
This is the time we need more meditation and have to set aside time to actually practice it. The benefits of meditation are numerous: better health, focus, concentration and general well being and relaxation. Meditation can also be used to visualize the situations we see as favourable and help in achieving what we want.
There are many different schools of meditation, different ideas and methods, how does one choose what is right for him/her? If you google the word meditation, you will find many sites that have many ideas and methods.
Research into brain functioning has shown the advantages of meditation and for a beginner, I would recommend one of two options to start with:
1. Guided meditations – these are audio meditations where the narrator walks you through a meditation practice, using words and sometimes music as well. A good example can be found here: ==>Click<==.
2. Binaural beats, or brain entrainment – these too are audio recording which play sounds at different brain wave lengths, the idea is to calm and influence the mind to enter a meditative state. There are different waves and I will discuss them in later posts. One of the most famous Brain Entrainment sites is ==>Centerpointe<==
I have been practicing meditation for many years and am most influenced by the Zen Budhism tradition, more about that here ==>Click<== .
